Soccer Referee Update Information

This blog reports on the consolidation of soccer referee grades into license levels. In 2020, as of July 1, 2019, U.S. Soccer will cancel its nine-grade referee program. In its place, a new five-license program will be in effect.   The new framework aims to streamline the progression of referees as they advance in skill and experience. The consolidation of soccer referee grades into license levels does not undermine the skillset nor does it detract from the quality of the match.   The referee should not worry about losing credit or clout. They should not find themselves assigned to less games because of the program change.   This was the result of a multi-year review of the referee landscape.
