What Equipment is Necessary for Soccer?
When somebody begins playing soccer, there is a lot to learn about equipment.
What is a soccer ball? To those who
know and love the game already, the answer is obvious enough. For those who are
brand new, it isn’t so. The soccer ball is round and made of leather (or other
materials for practice balls or toys).
In FIFA-regulated soccer, the
circumference of the ball falls between 27 and 28 inches. The weight of the
ball should be between 14 to 16 ounces. This, however, is an adult regulation
standard. Children’s balls come in smaller sizes to accommodate their abilities
and height.
For example, one of the smallest soccer balls
is size three. These are pee wee balls, appropriate for child players under
the age of eight. Its circumference is 23-34 inches. The next size up is four.
A size four soccer ball is for U8 to U12 and measures 25 to 26 inches.
After a youth participant is older
than twelve, the player will use a size five regulation ball in most cases.
Soccer uniforms are a jersey and
shorts. The players wear the same color but the goalie will likely wear
something a little different to denote their status on the field. Of course, a
full kit must be purchased: socks, cleats, shoes, and shin guards included.
People use shin guards, also called
shin pads, to protect the shin from getting injured since there is really no
muscle nor body fat to protect the bone.
Additionally, those who play goalie
may have gloves as part of their soccer
equipment arsenal.
